Horizontal Or Directional Drilling (Directional Boring)
This is the process of installing underground utilities (gas pipe, water pipe, electrical conduit, etc) using a surface launched drilling machine, following a path without the use of conventional excavation. Directional boring is only necessary when using conventional trenching or excavating is not practical or when the surface cannot be disturbed (such as busy roadways, congested areas, etc.).
MBS utilizes HDD for both utility and private gas line installations when trenching and excavation does not make sense to install gas pipe and other utilities. Although the process of directional drilling is straight forward, the pre-bore steps that must be completed first are crucial to ensure no damage is done to other utilities or other underground facilities (potholing, CCTV, bore path engineering, etc). |
