Aging gas pipelines are a big problem. Another issue? Most people don’t realize it’s a problem. Gas pipelines, just like water or oil lines, require regular maintenance. It’s when business owners don’t have the gas pipelines checked and updated that makes the aging pipelines more prone to leaks or bursting.
At MBS Engineering, we offer both construction and industrial maintenance services. Having regular inspections and servicing by the experts at MBS can improve the capacity and life of your equipment. Your Northern and Southern California experts, we have completed over 100 gas system re-pipes, thousands of leak repairs, and over 50,000 seismic valve installations since 2007. Our tailored maintenance programs are designed for each individual client. In fact, that’s how we’re able to provide consistency and develop an intimate knowledge of equipment. This allows us to repair or replace items before they cause any major problems. We’ve worked with companies like:

2017 was a big year for MBS. And we’re so thankful for each and every customer who helped us achieve success. You may have heard that MBS was awarded the 2017 Gold Shovel Certification which recognizes MBS as a safety conscious company. It’s a proactive indication of an increased investment in damage-prevention to drive safety, reduce damages, and minimize the risks associated with excavating on or around buried assets. But that’s not all. In addition to Gold Shovel Certification, we added natural gas Microturbine Generation Systems, to our lengthy list of services.
So thank you for making MBS your go-to company for all of your natural gas-related needs in 2017. Because in addition to awards like this, our customers help us earn recognition as California’s most trusted private natural gas company. And that’s why we continue to expand our offerings. Here are a few more highlights from 2017:
Prevention is always better than reaction in the case of gas leaks. But sometimes, a gas leak will still occur. However, for those who are unsure whether or not they’re smelling gas an alarming trend occurs: they ignore it. Instead of turning a blind eye to a potential gas leak, learn more about the problem and know how to help prevent a dangerous problem.Gas leaks, when ignored, have a tendency to cause a lot of health problems. Dizziness, nausea and headaches are some of the more minor side effects. Memory loss and vomiting are among the more severe. Depending on the problem, death may even occur—and that is truly tragic when people realize that gas leaks deaths are very preventable. One of the best ways to help prevent a gas leak from occurring is to have your commercial meter and gas lines inspected and repaired as needed bi-annually. The professionals at MBS have worked with clients up and down the California coast to help with prevention—and we can help you too.
A leak may still occur, even if you work to prevent them. In most instances where our clients are working to prevent gas leaks, a leak occurs due to an earthquake. Mild or major, earthquakes can break gas lines. That’s why it’s important to have Seismic Gas Shut-Off Valves (SGSOV) which can prevent gas fires after an earthquake. MBS has installed thousands of automatic gas shut off valves throughout the state of California. Of course, there are times that even prevention can’t stop a gas leak. Here are three signs that you may be experiencing a gas leak. The Tell-Tale Smell Natural gas has a very distinct odor due to an additive that utility companies use called mercaptan. While harmless, the rotten egg smell alerts business owners to a gas leak quickly as natural gas is both colorless and odorless. A Hissing Sound Do you know where your gas lines are located? Most are closer to the surface than we realize. If you hear a hissing sound, do a little investigating. Make sure the noise is not coming from an appliance. If you discover the sound is a leaky gas line or the sound is accompanied by the smell of gas, immediately exit the area and contact the professionals. An Unexplained Mist Most people don’t realize this but a broken gas line may give itself away by emitting a strange white cloud around your building. Again, you should also notice an odd smell. If your office appears to be cloaked in a strange white fog, exit the area immediately and dial 911 as well as a gas leak detection service or your local utility company. The next time you suspect a gas leak—or you want to prevent problems down the road—contact the experts at MBS. We’ve helped hundreds of clients throughout California and we’re here to help you, too
If consistency is your aim, maintenance is the game. Just like an annual health checkup at the doctor, your gas systems should get an annual audit to ensure optimal function. It is always better to proactively audit and manage your gas systems rather than react to potentially high-risk situations. Ensure your mechanical systems operate reliably at all times with a comprehensive gas maintenance program.
What is a Gas Maintenance Program? MBS Engineering’s Gas Maintenance Program is a yearly auditing, testing and reporting service for your property’s gas system that identifies, tests and prevents gas related issues caused by aging or obsolete equipment. How does it work? MBS starts by reviewing your gas map or mapping out your facility’s gas system. We provide a detailed report of all the gas system assets such as Seismic Valves, Gas Regulators, and Manual Shut-off Valves that detail your assets’ conditions, model numbers, and locations. Why do I need it? Proper maintenance of gas lines, valves and regulators is necessary for a safe working environment. Gas line corrosion and leaks can easily go undetected for a long period of time, and can lead to catastrophic property damage and endanger your staff. In addition to preventing gas-related issues, maintenance saves money. We all know that repairing cavities costs more than routine cleaning; so don’t let your gas lines deteriorate. Who can I call? Look for a specialty contractor who can safely tackle complex problems and provide efficient solutions. MBS Engineering offers tailored maintenance programs, designed specifically for each client, including those with complex plant and project support needs. By maintaining your equipment on an ongoing basis, we’re able to develop an intimate knowledge of the equipment, which enables us to repair or replace assets before they develop into bigger, costly problems. |
